Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Credit:
The condition for obtaining credit is the attendance at of exercises and written assignments of some chosen tasks. Exercises are mandatory. Absence from exercises must be excused. In case of absence, the student will receive a substitute assignment and must prove that he/she has mastered the given topic in the form of a written report.
Exam:
The exam has a written and an oral part. A credit is required to take the exam. The written part includes some examples and a test of knowledge of concepts. Students may not use any materials or devices except a calculator. The oral part may contain questions for which the student will be given time to prepare; however, it is primarily a test of the student's knowledge and orientation in the form of several questions with answers without preparation.
Aims
The course concentrates on explaining the essence of the mechanical properties of metallic and non-metallic substances, in dependence on the faulted crystal lattice. Information is provided about the mechanisms of plastic deformation in single-crystal and polycrystalline materials, deformation textures, and strain hardening. In the exercises, students learn the experimental methods for studying plastic deformation.
The knowledge of the processes of plastic deformation in crystals. Relation between sub-microscopic events in solids and macroscopic manifestation of these events - i.e. changes in mechanical properties.
