THE ENROLMENT AND ORGANISATIONAL SUPPORT OF THE OPTIONAL SUBJECT - PHYSICAL EDUCATION

DECISION OF THE DIRECTOR OF CESA - THE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF BRNO

REGARDING THE ENROLMENT AND ORGANISATIONAL SUPPORT OF THE OPTIONAL SUBJECT - PHYSICAL EDUCATION


Article 1

Subject Matter

The Decision regulates the rules governing the enrolment and organisation of the optional course Physical Education (PE) for students in Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programmes at all units (faculties and institutes) of Brno University of Technology (BUT).

  1. The provisions of this Decision are associated with the Study and Examination Regulations of BUT, the Regulations of Study Programmes, Directive No. 17/2019 - On Teaching Physical Education and the Statute of the Centre for Sports Activities (CESA). Additionally, the decision is aligned with the Concept of Sport at BUT 2020 - 2030 discussed by the Sports Council on December 5, 2023.
  2. This Decision replaces Guideline No. 1/2023 for the enrolment in the optional course Physical Education and other sports activities.

Article 2

General Provisions

  1. The school ensures 2.0 hours per week of physical and sports activities through the optional subject Physical Education, provided free of charge. Any additional hours beyond this allocation are subject to payment by students as per the Price List.
  2. In accordance with the Physical Education Teaching Guidelines, TV is treated as an elective course, with credit being awarded upon completion. The criteria for credit allocation and the process for excuses are outlined in the course details available in the information system (IS).
  3. Within the PE course, BUT students have the option to select physical and sports activities from the semester schedule across various performance levels (beginners, intermediate, recreational, fitness, with health limitations):
  4. a) PE training programs in BUT sports facilities take usually 13 weeks, there is a 10-week training program in rented facilities,
  5. b) PE is scheduled for the whole semester or designed as a block teaching (it is indicated in the course card),
  6. c) the length of the lesson is 60 minutes, unless otherwise specified for a specific sport activity in the course card (e.g., block teaching).
  7. Physical Education primarily takes place in modern BUT sports facilities, some specific sports (e.g. swimming, dragon boats, hockey, etc.) are organized outside BUT sports facilities. Students are required to observe the following:

(a) The operation of BUT sports facilities is governed by Directive 15/2017 on the Operation Regulations of BUT Sports Facilities. It is mandatory for students to familiarize themselves with and adhere to these regulations while using the facilities. Students must also comply with occupational health and safety (OHS) specifics of each sports specialisation as communicated by the instructor during the introductory sessions.

  1. b) In sports facilities outside the BUT, students must adhere to the respective operating regulations and comply with OHS specifics related to the enrolled sports specialization as communicated by the instructor during introduction sessions.
  2. In addition to the elective subject PE, the range of activities offered to students is expanded to include the following forms of physical training:

(a) university sports representation - sports selections (V),

  1. b) leisure time sports activities including additional lessons,
  2. c) winter (ZK) and summer courses (LK),
  3. d) sports events (recruitment events, open days, tournaments, etc.),
  4. e) lifelong learning (University of the Third Age and training courses, seminars, lectures, workshops, webinars in the educational field of physical education and sport),
  5. f) professional and advisory services;

For the activities listed in paragraph 5(a) - (f), the following conditions apply:

(a) they fall outside the scope of the subject Physical Education,

(b) do not carry credit,

  1. c) are subject to charges as per the current Price List and guidelines outlined in the Proposals (with discounted rates for BUT students),
  2. d) the organisation and execution of the activities are governed by the Decision for the organisation of other forms of physical and sports activities for students beyond the optional subject Physical Education.
  3. The BUT sports team holds a significant position in the semester sports activities offer at BUT, with the following stipulations:

(a) CESA is the coordinator of the BUT sports representation,

  1. b) the BUT sports representation includes various activities within the university sports system, including:

- sport selections in individual and team sports (marked V-selection in the schedule; students register through attendance at recruitment sessions at the beginning of the semester or with their sport guarantors; the activity is usually not charged),

- university sports competitions (regional competitions, academic championships, Czech Academic Games - CAH); organized by the Czech Association of University Sports (CAUS) and the designated HEI,

- participation in World University Games, Academic World Championships (CAUS – following the FISU calendar),

- national university leagues (CAUS),

- European university competitions - individual sports or games (based on the EUSA calendar),

- international student tournaments,

- UNIS scholarship programme of the Ministry of Education and Science to support students with exceptional sports performances UNIS (VICTORIA University Sports Centre).

  1. c) The organisation of sports representation and the execution of related activities are governed by the Decision for the Organisation of University Sport and Sports Representation.

Article 3

Enrolment in the Optional Subject Physical Education

  1. Students of the BUT electronically enrol in the elective course Physical Education via BUT Information System (referred to as "IS") based on their interest and time availability at the beginning of each semester.
  2. To enrol in sports, students must first register with VUT login (BUT login) and BUT password.
  3. The electronic enrolment for the Physical Education optional course is conducted in accordance with the dates outlined in the CESA Academic Year Time Structure for the Physical Education course, typically in two rounds, and is structured such that each student can enrol in a maximum of 2 sports.
  4. During the opening of the electronic enrolment (1st and 2nd rounds) it is possible to make changes or cancel a previously enrolled sport in person (individually).
  5. The semester offer includes about 80 sports across five performance levels, including special classes conducted in English (EN) tailored for incoming students (ERASMUS SPORT).
  6. Information about enrolled sports is available in the IS.
  7. Electronically enrolled PT classes are non-transferable, and students are required to present a valid student ID before the start of the class.

Article 4

Cancellation of Registration for the Optional Subject Physical Education

  1. Students are required to cancel their registrations in the IS when the enrolment module opens if they no longer wish to participate in the PE enrolled classes or if scheduling conflicts prevent them from attending the registered PE classes. This will open up free spots for other interested students.
  2. Cancellation of registration for PE is allowed during the 1st and 2nd rounds of electronic enrolment when IS is accessible. Once the enrolment module in the IS is closed, cancellation of the registration is no longer possible.
  3. In cases of timetable conflicts during the semester, students may ask to change the classes they attended (if there is a free spot) with the agreement of the instructor/guarantor.
  4. During the semester, cancellation / withdrawal from PE course is only permissible for health reasons, with a written request sent via university email to the CESA Director (accompanied by the PE cancellation request form attached to this Decision). The Director of CESA may request a medical report for verification.

Article 5

Final Provisions

  1. The Head of the Department of Education and Science/Head of the PE Department is responsible for the organisation and administration of the entire instruction related to the optional subject Physical Education.
  2. Each sport is assigned a guarantor who oversees the content of instructions, coordinates the team of external collaborators, and designs the programme for additional physical and sports activities and sports representation.
  3. Regarding students enrolled in the optional course Physical Education:
  4. a) Students are introduced to the operational rules of sports facilities and the occupational health and safety regulations specific to respective sport specialisation during introductory sessions and are required to adhere to them.
  5. b) Students are obligated to fulfil their occupational health and safety obligations and respond appropriately in case of accidents during lessons in compliance with Directive No. 9/2022 on Occupational Health and Safety and Fire Protection at BUT,
  6. c) in cases of unacceptable behaviour (discrimination, harassment, bullying, etc.), students are to follow the procedures outlined in Directive No. 8/2023 on Ensuring Social Security at BUT.
  7. At the end of each semester, a student survey is conducted to assess the quality of the training received and provide suggestions for the advancement of sport at BUT. The survey results are presented on the CESA website.

  • PE electronic registration opens in the IS on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at 12.00,
  • BUT Sports Week 16 - 22 September 2024 (registration is open from 2 September 2024) offering various sport activities that you can try before PE lessons start,
  • PE lessons begin on 23 September 2024 unless otherwise noted in the course card.
